Giulia and Joe Biviano - Joe
I came to Australia in 1954. My father came in 1951, for work. I was 14 when I arrived and straightaway I went to work.
At the same time, I also wanted to learn English as fast as I could so I went to night school. Within a few months I enrolled in
Swinburne University, where I studied mechanical engineering part-time for 14 years to achieve my goal.
I got two diplomas: one in mechanical engineering and the other in refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating and ventilating.
In 1969 I decided to go overseas and I spent 2 years in Europe, working in England. I then went to the US. I eventually came back here
2 years later with no money left in my pocket and found employment at CSIRO.
I met my first wife there. We’ve been together for 20 years but unfortunately she died from breast cancer. I met Giulia 2 years later,
her husband had passed away too. Giulia had already 4 children. We decided to live together.
